President’s Message

A message for ACTRA Newfoundland and Labrador Members from your Branch President.
May 2026
Dear ACTRA NL Members,
As I look back on the years I’ve had the privilege of being president of this extraordinary branch, it amazes me to see how the industry in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to not only thrive but to truly outdo itself. Year after year we seem to welcome more productions than the year before. TV series, feature films and shorts, and commercials – both on screen and on radio – have long offered opportunities for our membership. Adding to those we’re seeing more Movies of the Week, Web series, BellFibe Series, etc. The industry in NL has kept pace with how the media is changing and growing in the world and our membership is growing right along with it and embracing every opportunity that is presented. Our province has quickly established itself as a strong centre for production, nationally and internationally, and it boasts some of the most amazing artists in the country.
I know there are frustrations within the industry. I feel them. I know there are fears about the increasing presence of AI in our world and what that means for our jobs and the future of this industry we love so much. I share those fears as I watch AI gain traction as one of our industry’s greatest challenges. ACTRA NL is ready to face that challenge head on. We are committed to being a voice for our members when a voice needs to be heard; to engaging and advocating; to being accessible, and to facilitating open and safe exchanges that are built on mutual respect and professionalism.
That same professionalism that ACTRA NL members demonstrate every day alongside preparedness, willingness, and playfulness. Whether showing up for a long day in a principal role or a longer day in a background capacity, Newfoundland and Labrador’s artists’ show an unrivaled passion for and pride in their work and their work ethic is unmatched.
To represent this branch is an honour and a responsibility I cherish.
